Savannah Guthrie’s mom Nancy’s home is being treated as a “crime scene” after she went missing.
“We believe now, after we process that crime scene, that we do, in fact, have a crime scene, that we do, in fact, have a crime and we’re asking the community’s help,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said in a press conference Monday.
“She did not leave on her own,” he added.
“Circumstances on scene that we believe are suspicious in nature.”
Nanos said Nancy was “sharp as a tack” and “isn’t somebody who just wandered off” due to her age and “physical limits.”
The sheriff also urged the community to look at their home security cameras to aid in their investigation.
“We need help,” he pleaded to the public, noting that Nancy needs vital daily medication to survive.
Nanos said authorities have Nancy’s cell phone and they are planning to analyze it for any leads.
The 84-year-old was last seen Saturday night around 9:30 p.m. local time at her home in Catalina Foothills, Ariz.
During a press conference Sunday night, Nanos shared that Nancy’s relative called 911 earlier in the day to report her missing.
He also revealed that search and rescue teams were looking for the elder by ground and air.
Nanos shared that the state of Nancy’s home following her disappearance raised “some concern for us.”
“This is very concerning to us. We don’t typically get the sheriff out at a scene like this. But it’s very concerning what we’re learning from the house,” Nanos explained Sunday.
Savannah, 54, skipped Monday morning’s “Today” show episode, as she immediately traveled to Arizona to aid in the search for her mom.
The broadcast journalist’s co-hosts shared a statement from her that read: “On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support. Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom.
“We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.”
Savannah’s former “Today” show co-host, Hoda Kotb, shared a cryptic message as authorities continue their search mission.
The author, 61, posted the word “hope” over a rainbow on Instagram Monday morning.
Savannah has been candid about how close she and her mom are.
Last November, the TV host traveled to her home state of Arizona and enjoyed lunch with her mom and her sister at a renowned Mexican restaurant.
In the clip, the trip took a tequila shot out of a teacup and Nancy spoke about why she stayed in Tucson after moving there in the ’70s.
“It’s so wonderful. Just the air, the quality of life is laid back and gentle. I like to watch the Havalinas and eat my plants,” she said.
Nancy became a widow at 46 when Savannah’s dad, Charles Guthrie, passed away when she was just 16 years old.
