Britney Spears’ career and personal life have faced a series of ups and downs over the years. Spears first showed off her vocal skills on the singing competition Star Search at 10 years old in 1992. Following a stint on The Mickey Mouse Club, she signed a record deal with Jive Records in 1997 and […]

After the news broke, Spears’ rep issued a statement to Us indicating that both the Grammy winner and her family are taking her arrest seriously.

“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” the rep began. “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”

Spears’ rep also shared that her sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, are “going to be spending time with her” soon. (She shares the boys with her ex-husband Kevin Federline, to whom she was married from 2004 to 2007.)

In addition, the rep told Us, “Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue, needed plan to set her up for success for well-being.”

Us Weekly has reached out to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office for comment.

In 2008, Britney’s father, Jamie Spears, placed her under a conservatorship after she suffered a breakdown during her divorce from Federline. The controversial guardianship gave Jamie and other members of Britney’s team control of her personal, financial and medical decisions until a Los Angeles judge terminated it in 2021.

Since then, Britney has exhibited troubling behavior in her Instagram videos and out in public. Police pulled her over for speeding in 2023, and she was spotted driving erratically again last year after a night out with a friend.

Federline, 47, admitted in his recent memoir, You Thought You Knew, that he worries about his ex-wife’s “survival.”

“The truth is, this situation with Britney feels like it’s racing toward something irreversible,” he wrote. “It’s become impossible to pretend everything’s OK. From where I sit, the clock is ticking, and we’re getting close to the eleventh hour. Something bad is going to happen if things don’t change, and my biggest fear is that our sons will be left holding the pieces.”
